PUPPY TRAINING
Puppy training is available on a one to one Basis, We do not offer puppy training group classes. Puppy Classes are very good for Socialisation which is a very important part of their development
Puppies will respond much better away from a group class situation in our experience. I would recommend the puppy is first allowed to bond with it’s new dog guardians for at least a month before commencing training.
We begin with toilet training, and how we can avoid causing anxiety which can lead to inconsistencies in reliability.
You will learn how to teach the basic obedience training e.g sit, down, stand, come to me, no biting fingers and walking on the lead.
learn how to bond with your puppy through play/
Dog Reactivity in the Car
Is your dog over threshold in the car, particularly on the way to a known loved place. Excessive whining, barking or yelping?. we can help this behaviour by giving the dog a negative result, showing them they get the opposite to what they are expecting. so the dog will pair the result with us asking for ENOUGH!. After we have given the negative result we then reinforce the calm behaviour we are looking for using Positive Reinforcement.
DOG TRAINING
AND SHAPING BEHAVIOURS
Clicker Training/Shaping
Clicker training is an excellent way to train behaviours. The Clicker is a marker which captures the exact moment the desired behaviour is offered by the dog. The clicker is usually used in conjunction with shaping behaviours. when the dog learns to pair the marker with positive reinforcement (the dog becomes Operant). We create a bridge which tells the dog well done reward incoming. By using Shaping, Marking and positive reinforcement the dog learns behaviours and offers them by choice rather than being forced into a position which can cause stress or anxiety.
Separation anxiety is now a very common complaint after so many people bought lockdown puppies, the end of lockdown came and people returned to work. Now we have a troubled puppy who has enjoyed pack life, and now has to deal with isolation, the unwanted behaviour has become an issue as the dog tries to deal with the stress, which is often by chewing our furnishings. The real issue we have is understanding Separation Anxiety, before we can help we have to understand the root cause, once we have the cause we can use positive methods to reduce or completely remove Separation Anxiety by teaching our dogs to be calm and relaxed. Did you know a dog chews to reduce stress, chewing releases natural endorphins, which is the brains natural relief from stress. This is exactly the same as us turning to smoking or drinking to help deal with life’s pressures
most dogs are aggressive to ward off intrusion or to defend possessions usually caused by status in the den/home, or they have suffered a bad experience in the past. In most cases aggression is caused by fear. Understanding a dogs dilemma is the key to success. If the dog is in a position of pack leader he feels it is his/her responsibility to defend the den/house, we can help them with this misconception by removing their pack status and taking up the position of pack leader for ourselves. Once we have taken control of the situation the dog will become calmer and less protective allowing for a more enjoyable relaxed life
It is so demanding when our dogs pull on the lead, especially when we have large breeds who have been given the right to pull by being positively reinforced by there own actions. for example, the dog moves ahead and quickens the pace, like a loyal servant we go with them, so the dog takes self Positive Reinforcement from this because they are getting where they want to go faster, this is usually the case on the way to the park at the beginning of the walk. By applying negative reinforcement we can reduce the behaviour, we can then apply positive reinforcement to teach the dog to walk loose lead at our side
It can be very stressful to dog owners, when walking our dogs, and they are reactive to other dogs they encounter during the walk. this is an unwanted behaviour that needs to be addressed by de sensitising the presence of other dogs using the 4 Quadrants of Operant Conditioning, we can teach the dog to engage with us and focus on us instead of the other dog.
One of the less welcoming behaviours, the dog complete with muddy paws Jumps up on passers by, or friends. The dog will continue with this behaviour as long as he is positively reinforced, he is reinforced by people giving the dog a positive reaction to jumping up, in other words the dog gets what he wants and the behaviour will be repeated. by applying negative reinforcement the behaviour will decrease or stop.
Dog Training and the Perfect Re-call
The re-call is the most important part of our Relationship with our dog. If we have good Re call then we can control most situations away from the house. Sounds easy, we have to start small in the quiet of your house, we begin with sit and stay, step back 1 step and recall with food reward, every time we have a success we take a extra step away, so we have Reinforced close control and Re call in one single action. Now we move to the garden.
So were ready for the next step, the local park of course on a training line carrying out the same procedure. Until we manage to recall our dog under distraction from other sources we remain with the long line until completely happy the dog will Respond to us. Most importantly We need to make ourselves attractive by displaying welcoming body language
Our Dog’s can learn to guard possessions by being positively reinforced by their own actions. This basically means that they learn by growling they can stop the item from being taken away, So you approach the Dog to retrieve the item, he growls you back off, and the dog is positively reinforced because they have been given the result they wanted so the behaviour will be repeated on every occasion. This Behaviour may be the result of an experience the dog has had in the early years and they are worried they are going to lose the treasure in their possession. This behaviour needs to be dealt with by giving the dog a negative result. Indeed the Item needs to be removed, and the dog will learn by not growling they get to have the item. By using safe practice methods we can achieve this without the fear of getting bitten. The most Important matter is to become the Dogs Leader and take charge of the situation, by using the power of the food and learning the leave command, also great re-call will be a great benefit to us. The desired result will be achieved in every instance
Dog Training and Taking Control, Become the One True Leader
99% of all behaviour issues including all the above services all stem from Status within the Pack/Family.
Although we do not realise it incorrect signals given through our body language, we have elected the dog as leader of the pack in a world they do not understand, the Human world. In the wild Dog’s natural habitat the Alpha only has 4 things to worry about for the survival of the pack and he understands these fully. In our world the elected Leader can’t make good decisions for us because they do not understand our world, this will result in unwanted behaviour from Separation Anxiety to Aggression.
Once we have removed the Leader Status and taken the Leader Role for Ourselves, the Dog can relax and become Stress free
