DOGS AND ZOOMIES
What are Zoomies also known as Frenetic Random Activity Period. Zoomies are a sudden explosion of pent-up frustration and excitement that can occur in our dogs after certain triggers, it could be after a walk, after a bath or shower. During meeting encounters with both dogs and humans, attention seeking, during play with other dogs. There is no real explanation for the behaviour except that it is a totally natural behaviour.
HOW DO WE HANDLE ZOOMIES
One option is to just ignore the occurrence and wait until the dog gets the moment out of their system, although this is not always possible especially for larger breeds that can damage valuable items in the house, even tip furniture over in some cases e.g. the TV or sofa. The solution is to try and position yourself to be able to take the dog by the collar, without giving eye contact squat down with the dog and talk gently carry out slow deep breathing. This is known as a calm freeze which allows the dog to de-stress and come back to normality, as soon as the body becomes relaxed and the dog returns to a calm state then just release.
